Lovely Trash

When the Pandemic started, I began doing more walking and hiking in the forests, neighborhoods, and nature preserves in my area. So were a lot of other people. Who left a lot of trash behind.

At first I was very upset by this soiling of the landscape. I was trying to escape the confines of my home and find some peace. Visit with friends and family. But instead, I found myself quite irritated.

Then one day, when I was out near sunset, the light hit a discarded mask and I saw it as more of a sculptural figure. I watched the light play off the form, creating shadows and texture. Many seemed at home, nestled in leaves or grass. Instead of being annoyed, I began to see gifts for my eyes on every walk.
